I had the privilege of being reared in a Christian home in Tennessee. However at the age of seven I clearly began to understand sin and its consequences. Although I had never robbed, killed or taken drugs, there were other intentional acts of disobedience and sin that were separating me from God.
After understanding what Christ did on the cross for me, I gave my heart to him. This took place during a Sunday night church service. As I began to cry, my mother asked what was wrong. I told her I wanted to invite Christ into my heart to be my Savior. While the ushers were taking the offering, under the directon and leadership of our pastor, I willingly gave my heart over to God by asking Him to forgive all my sins and to become my Lord, boss, Savior and coach of my life.
Since making that great decision to follow Christ, I began to understand the purpose of life was to honor Him in all that I would do and become. In high school, my ambitions of becoming an eye doctor were quickly changed as God spoke to my heart and called me to proclaim and preach His Word. Today, I love and follow Christ not because He called me to preach, but because he called me to salvation in Him. Such a life brings hope for today and the promise of heaven and eternal life with Him when I die.
