Brett Selby

Even though I came from a good home and enjoyed many of life’s blessings, there was a void in my life. As I graduated from high school and prepared to go to college, I was frightened. I didn’t know what to do with my life. So many decisions loomed on the horizon and I didn’t have any answers. I pursued things I thought would fill the emptiness in my heart. Once I obtained them, I discovered I was no different. It began to dawn on me that the problem was within me.
The summer after high school I attended a youth camp where we had Bible classes and worship services. The people I went with were believers. I began to notice they seemed to have the sense of purpose I sought. During one of the worship services, the preacher read from the Bible of when Jesus came up to some men and challenged them to, “Come, follow me…” It seemed like God was saying to me, “You are looking for direction in your life. Here it is, follow Christ.” That night, I found the guidance I was looking for.

“Even though I came from a good home and enjoyed many of life’s blessings, there was a void in my life.”

The joy I sought, a sense of meaning and purpose, have filled my life since that day. When I make decisions about my future, God guides me and shows me the way. Anxiety about life and fear about the future have been replaced with a deep sense of peace and contentment. Life is challenging and I still must trust God to guide my life. However, since that day, things have not been the same. The most important thing that has ever happened to me was the day I knew God loved me.

There’s more to life than breathing and feeling – Real life is only found in Jesus Christ.
