I’d like to tell you a story about the best thing that ever happened to me. I grew up in S. Cal in the 60’s. I actually went to Woodstock in ‘69! All the freedom drugs and rock n’ roll brought… or so I thought. My parents abruptly moved in 1970 to NW Missouri. What a change, from Disneyland and Huntington Beach to farmland! I was the only longhaired boy. However, the second best thing happened my senior year of High School; I met the love of my life and married that summer. Still, something was missing.
I was a pretty good person. I didn’t go to church, but I took my wife. One day in 1975, I felt this inexplicable urge to attend church; what could it hurt? I heard what they called the Gospel or Good News. Huh? My hope was in me even though I let myself down. I kept hearing this Good News and that God loves me so much He sent His son Jesus Christ to die… for my sins! Before long, I felt so overwhelmed to confess my rebellion or sin towards God and to ask Him for forgiveness.
THE best thing to happen to me is summed up in God’s Word (the Bible) in the book of Romans, chapter 10 verse 9, “If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved”. I now live my life in a relationship with Christ! He gives me fulfillment, purpose and joy. I’m not perfect and still mess up, but God loves me in spite of myself. Jesus is in my life, and He truly satisfies me. How about you? Are you satisfied deep down inside?
