My sister and I weren’t raised in church, but we were raised by parents who said they were Christians and we went to church on occasion with a loving Aunt. Momma took spells when she would sit reading her Bible. One Christmas Momma stopped reading her Bible to get my sister’s and my attention, “Do you want to live forever in heaven with God when you die?” Of course we did, so Momma prayed a prayer. “There,” she said, and we went back to playing with our Christmas toys.
In Momma’s mind we were made one of God’s children through her prayer. But God heard her prayer and when I went to church with my Aunt again, I heard the wee small voice of God through a plump little preacher, calling me to believe God’s plan and receive His gift. That day I began a new life, but I still lived in a home where I did not see that life lived. So I continued in ignorance of God and His ways until I was grown and married with children of my own to take to church.
One day God helped me understand the need to fully surrender all I am and have to Him for His use. That day was the first day of a life that has been full of new experiences of Him. He has allowed me to serve Him in ways I never knew possible, and I have seen Him answer prayers mightily. He is real. He is faithful. And I am blessed to know His presence in precious ways. I pray my children follow something they see in me that takes them to greater depths of Him.
