I grew up in a christian home. However I remember thinking that getting to heaven was something you had to work for and when you died you hoped that your good deeds out weighed the bad. So one day I asked my mom how I could know for sure and she explained to me that since God is perfect and humans are not, He had to sacrifice His Son to redeem us in His eyes so that we could live in His presence. All we had to do was accept His sacrifice, Jesus.
A week later I prayed to God to admit that I was a sinner, believe that Jesus was His Son and came down to sacrifice Himself for me, and I confessed that I was a sinner. After that it was as if a weight had been lifted off my shoulders and I was now free through grace. That decision gave me something to live for and dedicate my life to when there are so many other things vying for my attention.
Christ has been an awesome foundation for my life. Knowing exactly what I am living for has provided a peace that is impossible to comprehend. Knowing what I am living for has given me freedom from trying to live up to my peers standards so I don’t have to worry about what they think of me. There are hard times however. But in these hard times I am able fall back on Christ and know that He will never fail.
