Gary Roehr

I grew up on a farm, was known as a good kid, and always went to church. When I was thirty two years old, happily married with a family, life became more complicated. My mother died unexpectedly due to cancer. She left behind an eight year old daughter and a grieving husband. The challenge before me was to help my dad keep up the farm, pursue my career, help care for my little sister, and still have time for my wife and three children. I was desperately searching for answers to problems I encountered each day.

I worked in an oil refinery quality control laboratory. A young engineer had come to our workplace on a temporary assignment and was heard sharing his testimony about Jesus to fellow workers. Even though I was shy, I was intrigued enough to invite him and his wife to our home for dinner. This was above and beyond my normal behavior. After they shared how Jesus had changed their lives, I knew this was something I wanted. My wife and I both accepted Jesus Christ as our Savior. This was a life changing event.

For the first time in my life I was excited about reading and studying the Bible. It was amazing to realize that God loved me and had a plan for my life. Before this, I knew about Christ but did not know I could have a personal relationship with Him. Starting each day with Him in His Word is the joy of my life. Learning to know Him better and serving Him by serving those He brings into my life each day is an eventful journey. Psalm 84:12…blessed is the man who trusts in you!

There’s more to life than breathing and feeling – Real life is only found in Jesus Christ.
