I was interested in God and spiritual things as a child, but never attended church regularly due to my father’s distain for religion and church in general. I was baptized Roman Catholic, but we never attended the Catholic Church and my parents were fairly uninterested in spiritual things. When something didn’t go my way I would look up into the sky and curse God for my distress and vent my anger at anyone who caused me grief. I stuggled with anger and blamed God for my problems, yet I never prayed or read the Bible at all.
I was an angry kid who dreaded going to hell when a youth pastor in a church right behind my house shared with me God’s plan and the “good news” of Jesus. I wasn’t scared of going to hell or angry at God for my problems anymore. I didn’t follow God for ten years but once I was married that changed. My wife’s friend, a pastor’s wife, invited us to church and we heard the the good news of who Jesus is and what He did. We both accepted Christ and were saved, followed Him in baptism and began and exciting journey as new Christians.
The first thing I noticed after we were baptized was that we both had a love for the Bible and enjoyed reading it and learning about it. We were blessed by being part of a church that regularly taught the Bible and attended every Church service during the week. Being a true Christian has not solved all our problems, made us wealthy, kept us from gaining weight or looking better. We know that the stories told in the Bible are true, and can be trusted. May God bless you and thank you for reading my story.
