I grew up going to church with my family, but it was just something that we did. As a small child, I didn’t think much of it. So even though I wasn’t a bad kid, I still was lost.
It wasn’t until a revival at our church that I was confronted with the idea of sin separating me from God. The guest preacher spoke to the kids during a separate time from the adults, and explained in kid terms about sin. I knew that I had stolen and had disobeyed my parents at times. When I learned these sins would keep me from knowing God and being with Him in heaven, I went to the preacher to find out what I needed to do so God would forgive me.
Since then I have grown up with a relationship with God. Not a tradition or a warm-fuzzy feeling, but a relationship with the Creator of the Universe. There have been times when I still did wrong, but I can look back and see how God has helped me, taught me, and led me through the tough times. It is this joy through the hard times that makes knowing Jesus everything to me. When I finally do get to heaven, my joy will be even better.
