Most of us want a better life. I know I do. On the superficial side, I'd like to lose about 10 lbs. More importantly I'd like to be more patient, study more and just live a more balance life between work, family and my personal time. These are important things to me. Perhaps you have some important things you'd like to see happen in your life. It may be the addition of new habits or the deletion of old ones. If this is you, then I'd like to make a couple of suggestions for moving in the right direction.
- Don't try to do everything at once. This is one of my worst mistakes. I usually make a list of all the changes (like the ones above. See I did it again!). Then I try to keep all of them, all at once. Every time it ends in frustration, usually by the end of the first day. I've found a better way. Now, I pick one and make a small step in the right direction. I follow the advice given to Bob Wiley in the classic movie "What about Bob" and take 'baby steps." So, the important thing to remember is just take a step, no matter how small, every day. Soon you will look back and be amazed at your progress. I promise.
- Don't try to do it on your own. The important changes you desire could be very personal. You will be tempted to keep these to yourself. Let me suggest you involve two individuals in your "moving in the right direction" plan. First, I would suggest a friend or someone you know and trust that will support you. This would be someone who loves you unconditionally. It is someone you can tell your victories to and your failures as well. Second, I would suggest calling on God. Believe it or not, God wants you to have a better life. He wants your life to be better even more that you do! God is the one who created you and this amazing world in which we live. He as the power, and will grant you help if you surrender yourself to Him and call upon His name.
So here's the summary, decide what needs to change, pick one you can begin to work on in a small way (baby steps) every day, enlist a friend and call upon God to help. Oh, there's one other thing. You must actually get started. A great way to begin is to get your life priorities right. Click on the word CROSS to the left of this page. This will help you in taking that "baby step" in asking for God's help. If you do this right now and make a commitment, you will have already begun moving in the right direction. Congratulations, now get to it.
