About 60 years ago as a young farm girl I tried hard to be good enough to go to heaven someday. I failed! Not that I was “bad”, but just not “good enough”. In those days we memorized scripture in literature classes in public school. From those verses I learned that on my own I could never be good enough. One night in a little country church I asked Jesus to come into my life, forgive me and save me eternally. He did just as He promised.
To this day I still fail but the difference is I now know He forgives me as often as I ask. He gave me a godly husband for 39 years. He has taught me to be thankful in ALL things. He gives me peace just as He promised.
Today I am blessed to answer a 24 hour prayer line sponsored by my church, Muldoon Road Baptist Church in Anchorage. How special to pray with someone I may never see face to face, to encourage them to rely on God’s grace, goodness, and love, and to share God’s greatest gift to us of giving His Son to die on the cross to atone for sins. Then to be able to share my own assurance that because of the love shared on that cross I will go to heaven when I die, just as He promised.
