I grew up going to church from the time I was very young. However, I came to the place in my life when I realized that my church attendance and being a “good kid” did not automatically give me a relationship with God and forgiveness for the times I had failed to keep his commandments. After a time of contemplation, I realized that I could never be good enough to earn a relationship with God. If I tried to connect to God by my good works, how would I ever know when I had been good enough?
Along with that lingering question, another one surfaced: how could I ever have any security of my eternity? That is when someone close to me explained that Jesus died on the cross for my sins so that I would not have to earn salvation and forgiveness. I came to the liberating truth that I could trust Jesus Christ to forgive me rather than trying to fix my past. In one prayer of full trust in Jesus, I turned to Him as my Savior and Leader!
Since that decision, my life has been forever changed. God is in my life! Though I do struggle with the pains, I always know that God is with me. He will see me through and give me the strength and endurance to move forward. I know that at the end of life is the paradise that God has promised to all who have trusted in Him. That eternity is available to me, not because of any good that I have done, but because I have placed my trust in a good and gracious Savior . . . Jesus!
